Rocky Cantu Looks to Reclaim 155 lbs Title on August 5th

Born February 28th, 1991 in Rives Junction, Michigan, Rocky Cantu started fighting at the age of 19 while he was going to community college . He had wrestled since he was 13 years old and was itching to compete again. He watched his first MMA fight in Lansing where his soon to be friend, Justin Jaynes, was headlining as the main event. He watched him snap his opponents arm in half. Eager to compete, he told himself, “I could do that.” Two weeks later, he hit up Eric Moon who he knew was an experienced pro fighter and asked how he could start fighting? He told him to come to the fights that week, and he would match him up with an opponent. Michigan, at the time, was an unsanctioned state meaning there was no criteria to fight. He didn’t even weighed in. After winning that fight, he found himself winning three more within a month in a half. Back then he thought he was a real world beater. Little did he know, he had a lot to learn but he was surely addicted to the sport. After that summer he continued his career being an NCAA wrestler at Olivet College in Olivet, Michigan. During that time, he obtained a Bachelors degree in Fitness Management while fighting during the summers and even spent a summer training here in Las Vegas at Xtreme Couture. After College, he moved to Las Vegas, NV, where he committed himself to MMA. Dennis Davis being his main coach has been a great factor to his success and growth thus far. Though he has many other great coaches that should not go unnoticed, he can’t say enough about Dennis Davis. He’s there at the gym day in and day out grinding with his students and is always there when Rocky needs him. He has seen the Davis turn down money to corner a pro for a Bellator fighter to not get paid to corner an amateur. This speaks a lot about his character and his devotion to his prior commitments and athletes. He has not just been a great coach; but has also been a great friend that Rocky is proud to say will always be in his corner. The family environment that he feels at Xtreme Couture is amazing and wouldn’t want to be anywhere else. The gym is definitely one of his happy places. The hardest part about fighting, for Rocky, is being away from his family which is 2000 miles away. It definitely weighs on his heart not seeing them for long periods of time! He misses hunting and fishing with his family. Being a country boy, he feels like a caged animal here in the city. A trip home is well needed soon. This upcoming fight August 5th will be his 20th MMA fight. Soon after this, he will be planning on pulling the trigger on going pro and moving forward one fight at a time. He has a lot of fight left in him, and big things are to come for Rocky Cantu!!!
